I can't believe I'm almost done with my first semester. Time really flies when you've got your nose buried in a book all the time. Let's see... any updates? Oh, I got an update on my classmate with a stalker. She told me she saw him again sitting outside her apartment a couple of weeks ago. She told her boyfriend (who was inside) and they got in the boyfriend's car and followed the crazy stalker. He just slowly wandered between 3 different apartment complexes watching people. She took her camera and got a picture of his license plate, then called the police. They made a report and told her that he has a long history of stalking and harrassing people. Of course, they wouldn't tell her *who* he was, in order to protect his privacy. Seems a little backward to me.
Last night I went to the science club meeting and we got "The Talk". And 4 condoms each. I picked a green one. ;) We also played a jeopardy game about sex and, of course, my team won! I had to give silent thanks to Diana Gabaldon (author of the Outlander series) for teaching me that one of the symptoms of latent stage syphillis is insanity. That won us 400 points. Awesome.
Finals are next week and I'm stressing. I think that instead of typing this blog I should be working chemistry problems. That would be the responsible thing to do.
WINE TRAIL tomorrow! I'm so excited! Jen, I'll be there bright and early!!

Holidays
Oh, how I love Thanksgiving. I just love food. That's it. Pics from Thurs and Fri are online on my flickr page. Hit me up if you don't remember where it is.
I think I need to live in a colder climate. When it gets cold like this, I find comfort in cooking. Today I made black bean soup and baked some bread again. Oooo... fat tummy. The only time I set foot outside today was to grab some jalapenos from the garden to add to the soup. I have a feeling there will be 4 cats on my bed tonight sharing my electric blanket. :)
I just watched the news (after finishing my math homework) and I saw a report about something I am getting for Rob for christmas. Don't worry, he never reads this so he'll be surprised. Leslie has magnets of himself that you can dress in santa dresses or Longhorn cheerleader outfits. I love it. I'm totally getting some. :)
Alright, off to study some more...

So easy a lobotomized monkey could do it. Or can she?
I'm feeling really dumb right now. Here's my problem: I'm sitting in the Twilight Zone in my math class. We started Trig last week and I've never seen this stuff before. It sounds like the prof is speaking ancient Greek and I ain't got no dictionary around. I sit confused the entire hour. My classmates, however, all sit nodding as if this is a review of things they've heard before. I write furiously, hoping that *something* will make sense, but it doesn't.
My panic comes from the fact that I have been to the tutoring center and they're so busy that I sit with my hand in the air for an hour and no one helps me. Then, I try to schedule a private tutor and they're all booked. My heart can't take much more! I need a math wiz to explain to me in potato head language what sin, cosin and tangents *really* are and how you maniplate the equations to get the information you need!
ARGH!
I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving next week. I really need some turkey and pickled okra. Oh, and lots of wine. :)

Down time
I spent 8 hours at school yesterday studying. My brain was so tired after that, but I feel much better about things.
I was thinking about something last night on the way home and I thought I'd put it down here. I was waiting for one of my classes to start a few weeks ago, when a conversation started between a classmate and I. Obviously, she's 18 and this is her first semester away from home. She lives off campus and began telling me about how scared she is about the stalker that has found her. She tells me that he drives slowly around her apt complex and drives circles around the block while she walks to the bus stop. She says she is scared and doesn't know what to do, so while he was following her one day she ran directly to her apt and locked the door (while he watched which door was hers!). Now she wakes up in the middle of the night afraid he's breaking in a window. Of course, things like this just make me go insane with rage.
I didn't tell her my thoughts about how people don't teach their daughters that they have some power in protecting themselves, simply by being aware and assertive. I didn't go into how the stalker gets a sense of power and control my making her scared. I also didn't discuss with her that she had no legal recourse until he actually *did* break into her apt and kill or rape her. No, I kept my feminist convictions under wraps.
What I did talk to her about was the fact that she needed to go to the apartment complex office and let them know what was going on. I told her she needed to get a picture of this guy's license plate so she'd have someone to track, just in case. I told her not to listen to her friends who are telling her "not to worry about it, that he's probably just some harmless guy."
While I'm talking, she's listening with wide eyes and nodding. I'm crossing my fingers that this works for her because *I* don't know what to do next if it doesn't.

Words
I have 2 new favorite words:
stoichiometry and phosphorylation.
Phosphorylation is the addition of a phosphate (PO4) group to a protein molecule or a small molecule.
Stoichiometry is the calculation of quantitative (measurable) relationships of the reactants and products in chemical reactions.
Thank you, Wikipedia.
I just like to say them. Does that make me a dork?

Halloween
It's taken me all day to recover from last night. Luckily, I only had one class today and I came home and did some homework. I uploaded pictures on flickr if you wanted to see more. Just click on the one below to take you there! This is just the front of the house. It doesn't show the graveyard or the yard card we put up. I have to say my costume was awesome, as well.

I tried to get a little studying in before the little demons arrived....

I was a little disappointed because we didn't have as many trick or treaters as last year. I did, however, accomplish my goal of making kids cry. Two of them started coming in the yard then burst into tears. That, too, was awesome.
I have two major tests coming up next week so I'm going to bury my head in the books for a while.
